HARRISON RESIDENCE, Royal Oak, Michigan
Located in an historic neighborhood on the south edge of Royal Oak’s downtown, this original Dutch Colonial had been charmingly restored and every square inch maximized. Yet at barely 1500 square feet, the owner desired a little more room, primarily a master bedroom and bath.
Our solution involved creating a cottage-like addition in the east side yard. The addition is connected to the main house via a gallery corridor space. This approach created a small rear courtyard accessed from the dining room and the new master bedroom. Scale, proportion and details were carefully examined to produce a structure of its time but complimentary to the original. Abundant windows, cathedral ceilings, and bold color create a vivid private retreat.
